Christ in the place of honour
With the work of redemption accomplished, God raised the Lord Jesus up from among the dead, received Him in heaven and accorded Him the place at His right hand. There God had set Him in the highest possible position: Christ stands, as a Man, over the mighty angels in heaven and over all human beings on earth.

His pre-eminence will be visible to all in the future, when the Lord Jesus appears in order to reign over heaven and earth. Then every knee will bend before Him and every tongue will confess him as Lord (cf. Philippians 2:10). God Himself will ensure that all are subject to Him. For 1,000 years (the millennium) He will exercise rule perfectly over the entire universe according to God's provision for the blessing of His creatures.

In this elevated position the Lord Jesus has been given to the church. It consists of all the redeemed in the age of grace and has been closely associated with Christ, the glorified Man in heaven, since its inception at Pentecost.

When He appears publicly in the future to take over the government of the world, the church will accompany Him at His side. When the universe is filled with His glory in the millennium, the church, as the perfect expression of His love, will make His glory complete.
