In the 19th century the pioneer missionary, Robert...

We ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
Titus 3:3-5.

In the 19th century the pioneer missionary, Robert Moffat, lived among the Bantu peoples for five decades by the Orange River. His abilities as a farmer, gardener, carpenter and smith helped him to make contact with the natives. His main wish was, however, to tell them the message of Jesus Christ. To do so he also translated the Bible into the language of the Bantus.

One day a native came to Moffat and said, "Massa, I have a question to ask you. Did the people who wrote the New Testament know the Bantus? We have talked about this in our villages and think they must have known us." - "Why are you asking me this?" Moffat inquired. "Well, you see," he explained, "we think they must have known us, because all the wicked things we have in our hearts are mentioned in this book."

During that time many Bantus were led to recognise their ways through the Word of God, but also to the knowledge of God as Saviour. They were saved by faith in Christ and experienced a thorough renewal of their lives.

"If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Today's reading: Nahum 3:1-19 · Proverbs 30:24-33

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

...when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem...
Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
