The Lord Jesus had spent a troublesome night. One of...

They ... put a scarlet robe on him. When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on his head.
Matthew 27:28.29.

The Lord Jesus had spent a troublesome night. One of His disciples had betrayed Him, another had denied Him. More than once the high priests had interrogated Him before the Sanhedrin (the Jews' council), then finally pronounced His death sentence. Then daybreak came.

In order to prevail with their plan of having Jesus killed, they took Him to Pilate, for the sentence could not be carried out without the Roman governor's consent. He had to pass judgment. Although convinced of the innocence of the Accused, he yielded to the Jews' demand and decided that Jesus should be crucified.

Thus the rejection of Israel's true King was sealed. How tragic! He was the One sent by God, their Messiah, who had confirmed before men His divine origin by many signs and miracles. But instead of royal insignia, He received a crown of thorns, which the Roman soldiers pressed on His head. All this happened amidst the most brutal ill-treatment and abuse.

Already after the fall through sin God had cursed the ground with the words: "Thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you." The crown of thorns was thus a sign of the curse with which the One who was holy and pure was dishonoured. How we are moved by the Lord's lament: "You know my reproach, my shame and my dishonour; all my adversaries are before you" (Psalm 69:19).

The fact that Jesus bore the curse on the cross in our place to free those who wished to be rid of the curse of sin was according to God's counsel. Let us worship Him for such a stoop!

Today's reading: Genesis 2:15-25 · 1 Peter 1:1-7

What shall the baptized for the dead do if ...

What shall the baptized for the dead do if those that are baptized rise not at all? Why also are they baptized for them?
(1 Corinthians 15:29)

Who are "the dead," and who are those "baptized for the dead"? The next verse gives an important hint: "Why do we also endanger ourselves every...More

Be clear minded and self-controlled' 1 Peter 4:7 NIV
Going from childhood to adulthood is a transition that requires a lot of wisdom and love. Your teen will feel and behave child-like sometimes, and adult-like other times. Your job is to realize that whatever their status, they will become a man (woman)...More
