I am (1)

Jesus said to them, Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.
John 8:58.

I am (1)
This verse was the concluding statement of the controversy with the Lord Jesus, in which the Jews denied His deity and heavenly origin. They recognised His words quoted from the Lord's answer to Moses' question as to his authorisation when He approached the children of Israel with the promise of deliverance from their bondage in Egypt: "I am that I am." The Jews acknowledged Moses' mission as God-given, but as soon as Jesus Christ asserted His deity, they showed their true condition of heart. Their opposition and hatred did not restrain them from a murderous intention: they sought to stone the One who was "God manifested in the flesh"

In the 8th chapter of John's gospel the Lord had also spoken of deliverance: "The truth shall make you free. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed" (vv. 32:36). Overlooking the yoke of their Roman masters, His enemies claimed never to have been in bondage, not to mention the bondage of sin that entangled them. Only their Messiah, the Christ of God, could redeem them, but they rejected Him.

How many today are blinded, just as the Jews were then! People will not admit to being held in the powerful grip of sin and refuse the good news of salvation in Christ: yet the Son of God, the Saviour of the world, is the only way of salvation.

Whoever acknowledges his lost state, repents and accepts God's gracious offer of the forgiveness of sin through the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus will be filled with admiration and worship at the glory of His Person..

(to be continued next Monday)

Today's reading: Genesis 19:23-38 · Psalms 2:1-6

GOD PROMOTES

When God set out to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, it was to take them out of captivity and bondage and to lift them up. God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

A LIBERAL HEART?

Read:
, God asked the widow to feed the prophet before taking care of herself. At the end of the day, what was not enough became more than enough. To what extent do you practice giving as an individual, family, church or nation?

Those who never give will continue to beg, if you desire to...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
