Corporate worship

On the first day of the week the disciples came together to break bread.
Acts 20:7.

Corporate worship
Do we gather together every Sunday, the Lord's Day, to keep His feast of remembrance according to His wish? If so, can our hearts be unaffected when we consider that God the Father sent His only begotten Son to earth, giving Him into death, and that the Son came voluntarily to accomplish the great work of redemption amid all the suffering connected with it?

Our hearts must surely wish to respond by praising and worshipping both Father and Son for their grace and mercy. The Holy Spirit will lead us in our worship, so that our sense of gratitude is expressed before God in a dignified manner for the love shown by the Father and the Son.

Sometimes it is the Father's eternal counsel that occupies our thoughts. We are impressed by His wisdom in finding the way to fulfil His intention in the sacrificial death of His Son in spite of the sin of mankind.

On other occasions we have the Lord Jesus Himself more in view. We consider His incarnation, His humiliation, His devotion to God and His sufferings and death. In wonderment we contemplate the work of the cross for the glory of God and the salvation of our souls. Such worship as honours God can only occur through the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Today's reading: Genesis 22:13-24 · Psalms 5:7-12

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.

The spiritual elevation of Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19 is something very peculiar. He seems...More

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
