Today's reading: Isaiah ch. 41

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
1 John 5:13

A person's salvation rests on the perfection of the atoning work that Christ accomplished at the cross. Christians are saved through the grace of God that appeared in Christ and that they grasped by faith: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8).
Satan, however, does his utmost to prevent anyone from grasping salvation. If he doesn't succeed, then he endeavours to sow doubt in the heart of the believer and persuade him that he may lose his salvation or has already lost it.
Let us rather listen to the voice of the Good Shepherd who says of His sheep: "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish" (John 10:27-30).
It is true that in the life of a believer there may well occur wrongdoings that hinder his enjoyment of fellowship with God. His salvation, however, is not at stake. When he confesses his sins, he is forgiven (cf 1 John 1:9).
Now the thought may arise that because one cannot be lost, one need not be so narrow-minded concerning sin. But God does not say, "Don't worry!", but rather: "Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap" (Galatians 6:7).
The grace that saved the believer also tells him emphatically that "denying worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously and godly" (Titus 2:11-14).
