Today's reading: Isaiah ch. 42

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
John 3:36
And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me.
Isaiah 12:1

The uprising in Antioch
In 387 A.D., the city of Antioch (now Antakya in Turkey) revolted. The reason was: the imposition of a new tax. In their fury, the inhabitants broke up the statues of the emperor Theodosius and his wife Flacilla. When their anger had died down, the rebels awaited in fear of the punishment that the emperor would inflict upon them. His grace was needed to avoid a bloodbath. The bishop Flavian undertook a long journey to meet Theodosius. Meanwhile, another bishop, John Chrysotom, encouraged the people of Antioch to count on God's mercy; but he made them aware of the extreme gravity of their act. The people repented.
Flavian met an emperor deeply offended. Theodosius was hurt owing to the destruction of the statue of Flacilla, his beloved wife, who had died only recently and was highly esteemed for her piety and goodness.
Flavian persuaded Theodosius to imitate the goodness of God, who though outraged by His creatures, had opened heaven for them. Theodosius gave way and said, "Could we refuse to forgive people like ourselves, after the Master of this world (Jesus Christ) asked His Father to forgive those who crucified Him, after all the kindness He had heaped on them?"
For offending God by sinning we should have been unpardonable. But whoever believes that Jesus Christ atoned for sin at the cross is forgiven; God's wrath is turned away.

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More

SATAN INTIMIDATES

When Goliath came to the battlefield, he took the form of a big problem but he later became a big opportunity. He came as a mighty obstacle but turned into a mighty door of opportunity when God stepped in. Every giant who stands in your way this season shall become a door to your breakthrough in Jesus' Name. The...More
