How grace teaches us

The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age.
Titus 2:11.12.

How grace teaches us
Every time the grace of God leads someone to conversion and faith in the Lord Jesus it gives us a cause for amazement and thanksgiving. It is not our own desert, but sheer grace that saves a sinner from judgment and puts all things right with our holy God. But God's grace towards the redeemed souls does not end there. It is available for them daily to help and enable them to lead their lives to the honour of God.

We have not been spared God's punitive judgment simply to continue living in ungodliness and unrighteousness. That would be an abuse of the grace on which our redemption is based. A genuine consciousness of God's goodness and mercy awakens the wish within us to please Him. His grace has this effect:

By means of the Bible it teaches us to think and act soberly regarding ourselves. We need to be aware that we are capable of any sin and can be kept from wrong with the Lord's help.
Grace enables us to act righteously in dealings with our fellowmen. Instead of taking advantage of others, we should go about our duties in the family, work hard at our job and obey the authorities.
Grace teaches us what godly (i.e. God-fearing) conduct is. It shows us how we can honour God through our external appearance, our choice of words and our behaviour.

Today's reading: Genesis 44:18-34 · Psalms 31:18-24

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
