August 11, 2015 Today's reading: Isaiah chs. 46 & 47 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 1 Corinthians 15:54-55 "It was a nice way to die!" was someone's verdict of the passing of a loved one. What he meant was: his friend had not had a long struggle with death, but had gone suddenly and without any suffering. We surely all wish that those nearest to us end their life similarly. But the most important thing is not the way someone dies, but his relationship with God the moment death comes. Whatever the circumstances may be when the time comes, if anyone has lived without bothering about God, one can hardly speak of "a nice way to die". It is vital that we put things in order with God during our lifetime and get to know Him as our Father. Otherwise we shall meet Him as our Judge in the life beyond the grave. The Bible, God's precious Word, shows us on the other hand that there are people whose death is indeed the result of a victory: the victory of Jesus Christ. Whoever is reconciled to God through faith in Him has a share in that victory. For them, death is merely the gateway by which they enter the presence of their Lord, whose love for them led Him to lay down His life at the cross. Christ is now in heaven, which is therefore the home of believers. They often feel like strangers on this earth. However painful departing this life can be for a believer, the death and resurrection of Christ turns dying into the blissful entry into rest of heaven. |

I am come from heaven, not that I should do My will, but the will of Him that has sent Me. (John 6:38) The only true attitude for the Christian is that of dependence. The moment we get off the ground of dependence on God we are sure to come to grief. This is true both individually...More |

' Jeremiah 1:9 NIV The people God calls usually start out feeling ill-equipped and insecure. Indeed, if you jumped and said, No problem, Lord, I can handle that,' He wouldn't call you at all. You say, but I've made so many...More |
