I am (9)
Death means eternal separation from God; so even the simplest soul can understand that life must be present to enable man to dwell in the Father's house. With God only eternal life counts, for all human life ends with physical death, as we all know, unless the rapture of the Church, when Christ returns for His own, takes place beforehand.

The Lord Jesus Christ is life. In the introductory verses to his gospel the apostle John writes of Him: "In him was life, and the life was the light of men" (ch. 1:4).

This means that the Son of God is the source of life; apart from Him there is no life of any kind. The Father, who has authority over life, has given Him the same power (cf. John 5:26), and He wants to grant that life to lost souls that are dead in trespasses and sins. The Lord Himself said, "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly" (John 10:10).

How can eternal life be obtained? To answer this question we must again hear the words of the Lord Jesus Christ: "This is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent" (John 17:3). We must be born again, so that the old man of our sinful nature dies. Then we understand the words of the apostle Paul to the Colossians: "You died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God" (Colossians 3:3). Jesus Christ is "the true God and eternal life" (1 John 5:20).
