Today's reading: Isaiah ch. 49

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew 16:26; 6:33

The decisive thing
Mr. D. was one of the vice-presidents of the World Bank in Washington, in which his wife also held an important position. Owing to the many important tasks needing immediate attention, questions of faith were pushed into the background over a lengthy period. "For me", Mr. D. said, "God was somewhere out of reach, and didn't seem interested in us."
However, one day he realised that the decisive thing was missing in his life: "I need clarity concerning God." And his wife added, "I, too, sensed a great vacuum in our life."
Their consequent search lasted many years. Eventually their contact with a colleague proved helpful. This latter economist's conduct was recognisable as the result of his living relationship with God. After various conversations, Mr. D. felt more and more that God was working in his heart and calling him to a living faith. Later he said, "At first I resisted: I told God I would like to, but I couldn't."
It was on an Easter Sunday that this shrewd man became convinced that Jesus had truly risen from the dead, that He was alive and very close to him. Deeply moved in his soul, he thanked the Lord and prayed: "Now work in my wife's heart." It had, in fact, already happened. The risen Lord had granted the married couple simultaneously saving faith in Himself and His atoning sacrifice.

The Psalmist prayed, Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting' (Psalms 139:23-24 NKJV). If you're wise you'll...More

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
