August 15, 2015 Today's reading: Isaiah ch. 51 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; Hebrews 2:3 At first glance, it may not always appear that neglect is such a great mistake. It depends on what circumstances may result. Neglect in a minor manual repair, for example, is less serious than when a nurse omits to give the medicine prescribed to a patient who suffers as a result. In the verse quoted above, it is a question of those who neglect "so great a salvation", that is who fails to heed God's offer of salvation. They may not be scoffers or godless persons. They continually postpone taking a stand before God and accepting Jesus Christ as their Saviour. They may intend doing so some time, but not right now. For the time being, they leave the matter of salvation to one side. Salvation is "great" because it is a gift of God and can save the most guilty among us. It is great because it grants us eternal life, demanding nothing more of us than faith in Jesus Christ and His work of redemption. Let us consider the consequences that neglect can have! They cannot be compared with any financial or health problems we may experience during our life on earth. The issue is: being separated from God eternally. Too much is at stake for procrastination, which may in intent be only temporary, but in fact could turn out permanent! |

Open Heavens for Friday, April 17, 2015 by Pastor E.A Adeboye KEEP YOURSELF HUMBLE Several years ago, I was on a visit to a parish of our church in Ilesha (a town in southwest Nigeria) on the same day that a Bible Study was to take place. Because I wanted to be blessed, I sat down in the congregation waiting for the Bible study teacher to commence the lesson for the day. However, an overzealous...More |
