August 17, 2015 Today's reading: Isaiah ch. 53 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:31 Even in prison in Philippi, the Apostle Paul and his companion, Silas, were able to be a faithful witness for their Lord. In the middle of the night, despite their physical suffering, they prayed and sang hymns of praise to their God. Such a thing is noticed and accredited. The Bible reports that the other prisoners listened to them, and the governor of the prison too, presumably. Then the earthquake occurred; God intervened and softened the hard heart of that man. "What must I do to be saved?" he asked in his deep heartfelt trouble. The answer was our text above: "Believe on our Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved." Can one be saved so easily? In his terror, the man had been about to commit suicide. Indeed, when it is a matter of life or death, things become simple. There is no time for complicated explanations. A man who has been brought into God's light and realises his guilty condition is like someone drowning, who has been thrown a lifebelt with the advice: "Hold on to it, and you will be saved!" Whoever is troubled by his sins knows that before God he is lost and needs saving. God allowed the prison governor to experience that extreme calamity so that he would come to know the power of the gospel that saves the sinner on the verge of perishing and grants him eternal life. Faith in the Lord Jesus, who was rejected and crucified by men, may appear to the world to be foolishness. Nevertheless, we find just what our souls need in Him alone: the forgiveness of sins, peace with God and eternal salvation. |

Open Heavens for Sunday, March 2, 2014 by Pastor E.A Adeboye NEGATIVE LIVING Life comprises of positive and negative elements. As a matter of necessity, it is not good for someone to opt for negative living. The fact that Jesus Christ was destined to die for the sin of the whole world does not exonerate Judas Iscariot from the evil that led him to the idea of betraying the King of Glory....More |
