I am (11)

Jesus said to them, Whom are you seeking? They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus said to them, I am (he). Now when he said to them, I am (he), they drew back and fell to the ground.
John 18:4-6.

I am (11)
This series of meditations on the well-known sayings of the Lord Jesus in John's gospel began with a pointer to His divine glory. We should like to conclude it in similar fashion.

After the Lord had lovingly prepared His disciples for His imminent return to heaven and the subsequent period of time, He commended them to His Father in prayer. Then He stepped out, fully aware that He would be captured, interrogated, sentenced and then crucified. But He gave the people a final testimony of His holiness and heavenly origin, reminding them of their responsibility.

At His question whom they sought, the throng following Judas Iscariot addressed Him with the title of His humiliation, whereupon the Lord presented Himself with the words they knew: "I am (he)." Before them stood the Son of God, offering Himself to their will. The moment had come when He was to taste the cup that the Father had given Him. At this revelation of His glory they stepped back and fell down. No-one could have used force against Him, if the Father had not permitted it, but the Lord went forth of His own free will. Had He not said; "My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to finish His work"? Now He could glorify God in sacrificing Himself for our redemption.

"Worthy, o Lamb of God art Thou
That every knee to Thee should bow."

Today's reading: Daniel 10:15-11:9 · Acts 4:1-12

It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

TOUCH NOT

In today's Bible reading, while David and his men were away, the Amalekites invaded Ziklag, defeated the city and set it on fire, after which they took members of their families - wives, sons and daughters as captives. When they returned and saw the situation of Ziklag, David and his men were really distressed,...More
