Silently the coffin with its adornment of flowers was...

The light of the wicked indeed goes out. He is uprooted from the shelter of his tent, and they parade him before the king of terrors.
Job 18:5.14.

Silently the coffin with its adornment of flowers was lowered into the grave and disappeared from sight. The funeral was over. People hurried off, getting away from the scene of death.

At the cemetery gate I met a former colleague from a theatrical group. We conversed about times we had together acting. "You know," I recalled, "when the final curtain came down after a bad performance, there was nothing more we could do about it. Complaints and reproaches were useless: it was a failure."

Isn't it similar with our life? One day the last scene will end for us, as it were, and the curtain will fall.

Why is death for many "the king of terrors", as the Bible designates it? Surely, because tears, mourning and separation are associated with it. And don't many people also sense that the thought of death reminds them that they have lived without the Lord Jesus Christ? A life without the Saviour and Redeemer has consequences to be dreaded. Whoever departs from the stage of life has a hopeless future that lasts for eternity.

If you can read this leaf, your "final curtain" has not yet fallen. Avail yourself of the opportunity to put your life in order by yielding to the Lord Jesus, before it is too late!

This is what applies to the redeemed: "God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain." (Revelation 21:4).

Today's reading: Job 4:1-21 · Acts 6:1-15

Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves...

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
(Luke 24:26-27)

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
