In this incident Jesus was sought out by a...

The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him. Jesus said to them, You are mistaken, not knowing the scriptures.
Matthew 22:23.29.

In this incident Jesus was sought out by a Jewish religious faction who maintained that there is no life after death. In contrast to the strict Pharisees, the Sadducees were the liberal theologians of their day. Both these groups were hostile towards Christ and regularly asked Him catch questions.

How did the Lord Jesus deal with the Sadducees' questions? First of all, He listened carefully to them. With an absurd story they ridiculed the thought of the resurrection despite the fact that the Old Testament scriptures testify it clearly.

Christ therefore had to inform those Sadducees unmistakably that they were ignorant of Scripture. How embarrassing it is to have a ready-made negative judgment of matters of faith without first having examined the Bible thoroughly! The Bible is, after all, the only reliable source of information on life after death.

Jesus explained God to them, as He really is. In the books of Moses God had called Himself "the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob", although these three men of God had died long before. The Lord explained to those self-styled intellectuals that "God is not the God of the dead, but of the living" (v. 32) - a convincing argument.

Jesus listens carefully. He is interested in every individual, including ourselves. And He points us to the scriptures, the Word of God. There we find the answer to the important questions of our life.

Today's reading: Job 10:1-22 · Acts 8:14-25

Another thing that can divert your attention is opening your mouth prematurely to reveal your secret to sympathetic friends'. Never share a testimony until it is...More
