A spring of life

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is in the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes.
Jeremiah 17:7.8.

A spring of life
There has been a period of drought, and the few trees in the garden present a lamentable sight. On land a few yards further down the hill stands a healthy green willow tree that has clearly not been affected by the dry weather. What is its secret? The tree was planted near a subterranean vein of water, from which its roots can draw sufficient water. As a result, it thrives with life.

We all know that without water there can be no life; but we may well overlook the fact that our soul can be thirsty. Each of us has deep down a longing for peace and true happiness. And in our morally dry and insensitive world many feel this thirst intensely.

To all who feel that nothing on earth can relieve this longing in their heart Jesus Christ gives a friendly invitation: "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink" (John 7:37).

Without this water of life there can be no constant, eternal joy. The Bible shows clearly how we can obtain this "water": Jesus Christ gave His life at the cross of Calvary so that we can draw on the water of eternal life: "Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst" (John 4:14).

Everyone is invited to quench his thirst at this spiritual spring of water. It is so near to us all, free of charge and inexhaustible.

Today's reading: Job 18:1-21 · Acts 11:1-18

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
