3:38 a.m. should find most of us fast asleep.

Pharaoh, king of Egypt, is but a noise. He has passed by the appointed time!
Jeremiah 46:17.

3:38 a.m. should find most of us fast asleep.
3:38 a.m. on the 26th August 2016. The church clock on the tower in Amatrice in Italy stopped, marking the inconceivable: the earthquake that shook Central Italy, surprising 231 people in their sleep and leaving them dead.

3:38 a.m.. The earthquake destroyed practically the entire village. The church tower alone remained standing as a warning sign, continuously showing 3:38 - until the end of October, when another earthquake caused the tower to collapse.

3:38 a.m.. The time when death befell the village, neither expected nor wanted.

Many countries are unaffected by earthquakes. It is accidents or illnesses that usually end hopes, tear people apart and put the final full stop to lives. They leave us behind desperate, wondering why and feeling lonely.

It is good that there is One who can comfort and dry tears. He has said, "Come to me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). He experienced suffering and shed tears at Lazarus' grave.

Jesus speaks through the miracle of birth and the wonders of nature. But He also speaks through disasters and catastrophes, so that people are awakened and able to turn to Him. He is "not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9) to be with Him for eternity.

Could it be your 3:38? Are you ready to meet God?

Today's reading: Job 36:1-21 · Acts 17:1-9

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
