A phenomenal hurricane

The LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Have you entered the springs of the sea, or have you walked in search of the depths?
Job 38:1.4.16.

A phenomenal hurricane
On the 6th September 2017 the islands of St. Barthélemy and St. Martin were struck with full force by Irma, the most powerful tropical cyclone ever recorded in the Atlantic with winds reaching 180 m.p.h., torrential rain and devastating waves. The hurricane left considerable material damage and a population in a state of shock. A responsible politician stated, "This confronts our vulnerability to the limit of our human condition. May it serve as a lesson for us!"

The Bible asks us this question: "Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? What is his name, and what is his Son's name, if you know?" (Proverbs 30:4). One can blame nature or the climatic change, but don't we know that, basically, God directs everything? He wishes to speak to us in love, but sometimes He has to do so in a severe manner. If we are so taken up with our material comfort, we may think that things will last for ever. But God occasionally shows us our weakness and His power. He reminds us that we, His creatures, shall meet Him one day to give account to Him. His wish is to bring us to His joy and glory (cf. 1 Thessalonians 2:12). But that demands our being reconciled to Him. Jesus has done all for our reconciliation. He died on the cross for it. So let us turn to Him today. We do not know what might happen to us tomorrow.

Today's reading: Isaiah 1:18-31 · Acts 20:28-38

The only true attitude for the Christian is that of dependence...

I am come from heaven, not that I should do My will, but the will of Him that has sent Me.
(John 6:38)

The only true attitude for the Christian is that of dependence. The moment we get off the ground of dependence on God we are sure to come to grief. This is true both individually...More

Are You Feeling Insecure? (3)

The Lordsaid to me, "Now, I have put my words in your mouth." '
Jeremiah 1:9 NIV

The people God calls usually start out feeling ill-equipped and insecure. Indeed, if you jumped and said, No problem, Lord, I can handle that,' He wouldn't call you at all. You say, but I've made so many...More

CO-PILOT USED SKY DEVIL' LOG IN

Be reminded that evidence from the cockpit voice recorder suggests that Mr. Andreas Lubitz, 27, the killer co-pilot of GERMAN WINGS FLIGHT 9525 locked the cock pit door when Capt Patrick Sondenheimer, 34, also of Dusseldorf city, left for a toilet break and used controls to override the entry code, crashing the plane...More
