The Bible speaks of you and me

Man dies and is laid away; indeed he breathes his last and where is he?

How can a man be righteous before God?

I know that my redeemer lives.

Job 14:10; 9:2; 19:25.

The Bible speaks of you and me
There are questions that haunt me day and night, e.g. what is the sense of my life? Where did I come from, and where am I going? Why all the suffering and evil? Could the experience of Job give us an answer?

This Biblical character led an irreproachable religious life, and one day he saw his life rocked by an incomprehensible series of misfortunes. He began to ask questions. When nothing goes right, our fragile minds blame anything. In his suffering Job dared to accuse God, making Him responsible for all the harm. Don't we all do so, more or less, some time? And when all goes well, don't we live as if God didn't exist? Then we find fault with Him when problems accumulate without realising that the opposite is the case.

If we see ourselves reflected in Job, we must consider the end of his pathway, i.e. recognise that our life comes from God, who is not obliged to account for it. If we have lived without any concern for what He expects of us, then we now need to get things right. But we cannot do so on our own. Job's faith was founded on his Redeemer, i.e. someone who could pay for his wrongs on his behalf.

In my case, that Redeemer is Jesus Christ, who came into this world to pay my ransom. There is one Mediator between God and man: it is Jesus. Seen in this light, my life makes sense: I know that I came from God and shall go to Him, and also that nothing in my life happens by chance.

Today's reading: Isaiah 14:1-32 · Acts 25:1-12

What shall the baptized for the dead do if ...

What shall the baptized for the dead do if those that are baptized rise not at all? Why also are they baptized for them?
(1 Corinthians 15:29)

Who are "the dead," and who are those "baptized for the dead"? The next verse gives an important hint: "Why do we also endanger ourselves every...More

Be clear minded and self-controlled' 1 Peter 4:7 NIV
Going from childhood to adulthood is a transition that requires a lot of wisdom and love. Your teen will feel and behave child-like sometimes, and adult-like other times. Your job is to realize that whatever their status, they will become a man (woman)...More
