The Deity of Jesus Christ (1)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory.
John 1:1.14.

The Deity of Jesus Christ (1)
If there is one truth that has been under attack from the beginning of Christianity right up to our own day, it is the deity of Jesus Christ. People have been content to describe Him as a good man or a reputable prophet, but in either case no more than a man, whereas the Bible affirms His divine origin in connection with His humanity. While distinct in Person, His nature is identical to that of God the Father. The limitation of our mind cannot grasp this.

Jesus Himself confirmed His deity: He proclaimed that He was "one" with the Father (John 10:30), and that whoever beheld Him saw the Father Himself (John 14:9). He affirmed His existence in eternity past as He who in the Old Testament declared, "I AM WHO I AM" (cf. Exodus 3:14; John 8:58).

The fact that Jesus could say, "My Father is greater than I" (John 14:28) in no way contradicts His claim to deity: it is rather the perfect manifestation of His humility. He condescended to assume human form, becoming "lower than the angels" (Hebrews 2:9) in order to die on the cross for those who would believe in Him.

Jesus was worshipped as God. When He was a young child, the wise men knelt before Him (Matthew 2:11)., and the disciples paid Him homage after He stilled the storm (Matthew 14:33).

Then there was the man born blind to whom Jesus gave his sight (John 9:38) and Thomas' adoration when Christ's resurrection was proved (John 20:28).

(to be continued on Monday)

Today's reading: Isaiah 19:1-25 · Acts 26:19-32

BE TRULY ROOTED

You can overcome the attacks of the devil if you can simply obey God's Word. Before taking on the devil, be sure of your salvation because the salvation of many today is questionable. Many are pretenders and have really never answered the altar call for salvation at any time. At the time they should be answering...More

YOUR FIRST LOVE

As a Christian, your heart ought to be aglow with genuine love for Christ, unless you are not genuinely saved as a result of having not truly repented from your sins even though you have confessed Jesus. At the new birth experience, the Holy Spirit regenerates our spirit and fills it with deep and pure love for...More

Imitation or Genuine?

"All the prophets were prophesying before them. Then Zedekiah said, 'This is what the LORD says' All the prophets were prophesying this as well." - 1 Kings 22:10-12 NASB

Zedekiah understood what it meant to be a prophet. He knew the vocabulary and how to deliver prophecies. In similar ways, others...More
