The love of Christ

That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend what is the width and length and depth and height - to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge.
Ephesians 3:17-19.

The love of Christ
However vast man's knowledge may be, one thing surpasses all else. The Bible tells us what it is: knowing the love of Christ. It is not theoretical, abstract knowledge: it depends on the place that Jesus has in our thoughts and affections. And it has visible consequences in our life.

Christ's love differs from human love. To be maintained and to develop, the latter needs a response from another person, whereas Jesus Christ has revealed love without seeking anything in return, simply because the divine nature is love in itself for the good of mankind.

The love of Christ signifies the Son of God, the Creator, coming to earth, assuming human form so as to approach His creatures, serve them and speak of God's love towards them.

The love of Christ is Jesus in His relationship with people, sensing the sufferings of the unfortunate, full of compassion towards those who weep, gentle towards children and gracious towards those who repent.

The love of Christ was finally expressed sublimely at the cross. There neither the contempt, the cruelty and hatred of men, nor the prospect of having to undergo God's wrath because of sins that He bore without having committed them were powerful enough to be an obstacle to His love.

It was truly inimitable love. Yet the love of God has been poured out in the heart of the believer (cf. Romans 5:5), making him capable of loving as He did.

Today's reading: Isaiah 22:1-25 · Acts 27:14-26

On the Day of Judgment, many whose names were in earth's halls of fame will be shown the way to the eternal lake of fire...More

BE STRONG

You don't charge someone to be strong if there is no task to be performed or if pressure is not required, either for motion or putting up resistance against an opposing force. In the physical realm, mere movement requires strength. This explains why a sick person or a person just recovering from an ailment finds it...More

Acts 5:4-5

God often proves to be other than people think. Here, for example, death struck a man suddenly for lying before God. Is God therefore severe, when he makes use of His power unreservedly towards the weak?
Let us first briefly examine what preceded this judgment. Holy zeal for the...More
