Seeking and finding

With you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.
Psalm 36:9.

Seeking and finding
We are shopping in one of the branches of a gigantic chain of furnishing businesses. Between magazine racks, chests of drawers and other more or less useful containers that help to keep order in a house an advertising slogan catches my eye: "Life is easier if you find what you are looking for!"

It was clear that the writer simply wanted to further business. It was also clear that the seeking and finding here referred exclusively to objects that we might have mislaid, material things that we already possessed.

Another thing is also true: when searching for ideal values we should know where they are to be found. Where do we find the sense of life, security, peace and lasting joy?

There are plenty of offers, just as with material goods, but knowing just where to find these ideal values is far more difficult. Whoever is sensible goes to the source of all good: God Himself, the source of life.

God alone can and will quench the intense thirst we have in life. In Isaiah 55 we read how God calls us to come and take His offer of His riches "without money and without price" (v. 1). He warns us, additionally, about other offers that are not free of charge and yet fail to provide what we are looking for.

His call is: "Seek the LORD while he may be found, call upon him while he is near!" (v. 6).

Whoever is tired of searching and really wants to find should not hesitate. God appeals to our heart. Take the opportunity to accept what He offers freely!

Today's reading: Isaiah 42:1-17 · Hebrews 7:1-17
