Thoughts on the Gospel of John (63)

Which of you convicts me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? He who is of God hears God's words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God. Then the Jews answered and said to him, Do we not say rightly that you are a Samaritan and have a demon? Jesus answered, I do not have a demon; but I honour my Father, and you dishonour me.
John 8:46-49.

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (63)
Here Jesus really comes to the point! His enemies need to prove Him guilty of any one sin. Was there anyone who had ever observed any lapse on His part? What a statement is expressed in these words of the Son of God! Nobody could sincerely have said such a thing. On the contrary, the centuries have shown that "they are all under sin. As it is written: There is none righteous, no, not one" (Romans 3:9.10).

Jesus Christ is the only holy, sinless person. This is confirmed in many passages of the New Testament. He did no sin; sin is not in Him, and in His own experience He never knew sin (cf. 1 Peter 2:22; 1 John 3:5; 2 Corinthians 5:21).

His opponents' abuse reached its climax, when the Lord reproached them with not being "of God". For religious persons this accusation is unbearable, just as the thought that there is no good in us is abhorrent for the godless.

When Jesus told them that they were not truly Abraham's children, but children of the devil (vv. 39-44), His enemies replied with malicious insinuations: He came from the Samaritans, was therefore outside the true people of God, and He had a demon and was thus a "child" of the devil. How did the Lord react to this wickedness? He did not justify Himself, but sought, as always, to honour His Father.

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

ATTENTIVE TO THE MASTER'S INSTRUCTIONS?

It is always good to pay close attention to instructions given by someone you claim to be your guide or guardian. Often, we miss many opportunities, breakthroughs and victories because we fail to see the details of the instructions given to us on a subject. A multinational company once held a promotional exam for...More
