A woman came to a well in Sychar to draw...

The woman said to him (Jesus), Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do you get that living water?
John 4:11.

A woman came to a well in Sychar to draw water. She did so regularly. The water was soon used up, and she had to repeat the process, go to the well, pull the vessel up and carry her heavy jug back into the city. It would soon be empty again.

It is no different for most people in search of fortune or joy. They do everything possible to get it, but next day it is gone. Permanent joy does not come from one's own efforts.

Today a weary traveller is sitting by the well. He asks the woman for water. In the course of the conversation He speaks of the gift of God and living water that He can give. She doesn't understand. Where will he get that water that quenches thirst for ever. Later it becomes clear that the stranger was not speaking of natural water, but of new life in the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus will grant this life to all who acknowledge Him as the Son of God and the Saviour.

The Man at the well was Jesus Christ, the promised Redeemer, who wished to grant her soul full satisfaction and joy. When she understood that, she left her jug there and hurried into the town. She thought no more of the water from the well, but of the water of life that Jesus gives. She meant to tell all the citizens that she has found the One who has fulfilled her longing. As a result, many came from the town to Jesus Christ and believed in Him.

The way to Christ is still open for all who sense that deep thirst in their soul that needs to be quenched.

Today's reading: Isaiah 45:14-25 · Hebrews 9:19-28

Behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their...More

TOTAL COMPLIANCE REQUIRED

When we teach about tithes and first fruits, some people think that it is the pastor's way of making money but they are making a great mistake. When you put God first, He will make sure that your blessings are irreversible. But if you decide to give Him second place in your life, you may not be happy to see what...More

FACING OUR PAST

Like Paul,we don't need to parade our failures or to pretend they didn't happen. Instead, we can thank the Lord that through His grace and power, our past is forgiven, our presence is changed, and our future is bright with hope for all he has prepared for us. - David...More
