Moses lived in Pharaoh’s house for forty years...

By faith Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater than the treasures in Egypt.
Hebrews 11:24-26.

Moses lived in Pharaoh's house for forty years. It was not wasted time; it had its value; but the years of seclusion in Midian were far more profitable.

Moses might well have had an excellent education in Egypt and acquired extensive knowledge, but "the treasures of Egypt" did not qualify him for his future duties. They faded into insignificance by comparison with the quiet fellowship he had with God, who was Himself training His servant.

We may be successful at school and in our profession. But have we learnt the basic skills that can only be learnt in the school of our Lord and Master? In our society education and study are important, and God can make use of them, but they neither produce disciples nor qualify us for the Lord's service.

Whoever wishes to be a useful disciple for Jesus Christ must reveal abilities that can only be learned in quiet communion with the Lord. We should never forget this basic requirement.

Isn't the Lord Jesus Himself the best example? He is the Son of God, and when here on earth as a Man showed early on that He was "about his Father's business" (Luke 2:49). Nevertheless He spent thirty years at home in the carpenter's family in Nazareth before starting His ministry. The period spent there in quietness was ten times longer than that in the public eye. And even then He frequently withdrew from human company to be alone with His God.

Today's reading: Isaiah 51:12-23 · Hebrews 12:1-11

FALSE PROPHETS AND THEIR PROPHECIES-FOOLISH PROPHETS

The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying: Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say unto them that prophesy out of their own heart, Hear ye the word of Jehovah. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow after their own spirit, and have seen nothing!...More

EVERYONE NEEDS A MIRACLE

Some years ago, I was invited to be the guest speaker at a garden party in an exclusive, highbrow residential area. Because I arrived at the venue quite early, I was made to sit for a while in the house of my host. The house was an exquisite parade of wealth and splendour. I had never seen such brazen display of...More

FOR CHRIST'S SAKE DON'T!

A negative change is generally abhorred by men. Everyone craves progress. We always desire to keep ascending the ladder of success. No one wants to make a u-turn in the journey of greatness. The greatest journey whose end has the greatest significance is the journey to Heaven. This journey is only made in Jesus...More
