What an element water is! We drink it from a...

I will pour water on him who is thirsty and floods on the dry ground.
Isaiah 44:3.

What an element water is! We drink it from a glass, admire it in a lake, need it to cook, and feel it on our skin when we shower. People have fought for it and died through lack of it. Little wonder that the Bible often uses it to illustrate refreshment and blessing!

Today's verse uses this image to show how God will grant blessing in the future by pouring out water on thirsty souls. Those who benefit by it will "spring up like willows by the watercourses" (v. 4).

Even today God provides us with water for our innermost soul. It is "living water" that God gives to everyone who asks Him for it. This water becomes a "fountain of water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:10.14). Whoever drinks it will taste the purity of this spring water. It is clear and refreshing and quenches thirst, a true enjoyment. Those who come to Jesus will experience that their empty life full of bitterness and disappointment is now filled with peace and love.

From whoever believes in Jesus Christ "rivers of living water" will flow out to others. The water that God gives him will satisfy not only his own needs but also reach others whose souls and spirits are equally thirsty. The Holy Spirit will bring this about, entering all who believe in Christ. What joy this gives: drinking this living water themselves and passing it on to others! "Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of living water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:14).

Today's reading: The Song of Solomon 7:1-13 · Mark 9:30-37

In this uncommon race that we have enlisted in, if you rest prematurely, or take your eyes off the daystar we are following, you will be distracted. Another thing that can divert your attention is opening your mouth prematurely to reveal your secret to sympathetic friends'. Never share a testimony until it is...More
