September 14, 2015 Today's reading: Psalm 89:1-24 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, Matthew 24:35; Hebrews 3:7 The shop window that was spared During the intensive bombing that struck Warsaw in the course of the Second World War, all the windows of a Christian bookshop were shattered. That is, all except one. The one that survived intact bore the inscription: "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away." This statement that the Lord Jesus made to His disciples some twenty centuries previously thus gained in significance for all who passed that devastated shop during that dramatic period. For anyone who had hitherto neglected God's warnings, that verse from the Bible was an urgent reminder to accept Jesus as his personal Saviour before entering eternity which at that time could happen at any moment. For those who had taken the step of faith and in return had been granted God's forgiveness and the assurance of eternal life, their God, full of gracious care, was reminding them that He remained the sovereign, almighty God, able to protect his children as He had preserved that shop window. But He was also reminding them that if their earthly life was nearing its end, God was by His children's side as they passed towards an infinitely better life, and that they could rest non God's promises like Psalm 23. Whatever the circumstances of our life, may we realise that God's plans will be accomplished. He is worthy of all our trust. |

He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More |

The Good Seed for Friday, February 25, 2017 by GBV Dillenburg GmbH Adam found an excuse: Jeremiah 17:9 In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More |
