September 16, 2015 Today's reading: 1 Corinthians 1 And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. Joshua 5:11, 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 The Israelites had completed their crossing of the Jordan on the tenth of the month Abib in time for the preparation of the Passover that they celebrated on the fourteenth day. What followed is a scene of great beauty that we need to consider. They ate of the produce of the land when they were still unable to harvest anything as it was springtime. They ate "bread and parched corn" without bringing a sheaf of the firstfruits, for it was "old corn" that they ate while Canaan is for us resurrection ground that we can enter by faith, the realm of heavenly blessings into which we are brought in Christ. Isn't it a wonderful thought that God had long since prepared something that His heart intended for us that we could never imagine? Each one of us can rejoice over it, even those young in faith who perhaps become aware of the fact for the first time. Whoever dwells in his heart where the glorified Lord is seated at God's right hand is filled with Him more and more. That is the fruit that we bring to God to glorify the resurrected One symbolised by the sheaf of firstfruits in Israel. |

The Word for today for Sunday, September 2, 2019 by Bob and Debby Gass When You Have A Vision I was not disobedient to the vision.' Acts 26:19 NIV When God gives you a vision for your life, you need to know how to: (1) Hold it. Your vision is governed by a time frame: If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.' (Habakkuk 2:3 NLT) Some of us can...More |
