Our daily need

There was a regular ration given him by the king, a portion for each day, all the days of his life.
2 Kings 25:30.

Our daily need
Today's text from the Bible deals with Jehoiachin, who was in exile in Babylon. Every day he received from Evil-Merodach, the king of Babylon, what he needed to live. Our heavenly Father takes even greater care for us: every day He provides all our material and spiritual needs. We do not have to worry about the following day. God, our Father, will care for us tomorrow as well.

Our daily need is all that we can take in and enjoy on a single day. It is unhealthy to eat, drink or wear more than what we require in the way of food and clothing for today. Any excess will only cause us to worry how we can preserve these things and protect them from thieving.

Our daily need is all that we should expect for one day.Shouldn't we be content with what our heavenly Father has provided? We can be certain of His attention, and the portion He allocates us is appropriate. Haven't we all every reason to give Him our grateful thanks?

Even our life of faith needs daily care. We do not have a store of spiritual strength for later use. We must request and obtain help from above day by day. By reading and hearing the Word of God, by praying and trusting God we receive all that we need. All that is necessary is there for the taking. May we take in and enjoy what is apportioned to us every day in the way of spiritual food and joy.

Today's reading: Exodus 10:24-11:10 · Luke 5:1-11

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
