Thoughts on the Gospel of John (75)

Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said to him, Do you believe in the Son of God? He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him? And Jesus said to him, You have both seen him and it is he who is talking with you. Then he said, Lord, I believe! And he worshipped him.
John 9:35-38.

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (75)
On account of his fearless confession of Jesus Christ the man healed of his blindness was cast out by the rabbis; He was unacceptable for their school of doctrine. But he found refuge with the Son of God. When he was blind the Lord had found him and given him his sight. Now Jesus found him in his loneliness and brought him into the best fellowship that anyone can experience, that of the Son of God Himself.

"Do you believe in the Son of God?" This is a question for everyone, and it demands a clear answer. "He who believes in him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already" (John 3:18).

The one healed showed his readiness to believe, provided he knew who He was. Then the Lord revealed Himself. The "Man called Jesus" was not merely a prophet, but the Son of God Himself. How overpowering! As the Son of God He is a Person of the Deity and justifiably the object of faith and worship. So we read that the one healed paid Him homage.

What a moving story this is: the man who was a blind beggar now believed in Jesus and honoured Him as the Son of God. This is a spiritual occurrence: being transformed from the lack of direction in human thought and desires to the bright light of divine truth with the Son of God at its centre - something that hopefully will be repeated times without number.

(to be continued next Sunday)

Today's reading: Exodus 12:43-13:10 · Luke 6:1-11

THE GREAT DELIVERER

God is great but He humbles Himself to the level of His children to deliver them. The one who will deliver you must be stronger than the enemy holding you captive. The reason He is able to deliver is because He is stronger than all your enemies put together. This is why in

NO FOOD FOR THE LAZY MAN

Laziness is not a Christian virtue in any way. Our Lord Jesus Christ made this clear by His lifestyle of hard work while here on earth. A lifestyle of laziness is outrightly rejected in Scriptures typified by today's Bible reading. It is amazing that some people are still expecting God to rain manna on earth! It does...More
