Learn to delegate

‘The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.’ Exodus 18:18 NIV

The Bible says: ‘The people…stood around him from morning till evening…Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are doing is not good. You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.”’ (Exodus 18:13, 17-18 NIV)

Have you ever noticed the signs on the back of trucks indicating their load limits? Highways even have weigh stations to ensure vehicles aren’t carrying more than they’re designed to handle. If even powerful tractor-trailers have load limits, doesn’t it make sense that we do too? Moses had exceeded his. Constant demands—meeting people, resolving disputes, keeping pace with an entire nation—were wearing him down. He had two options: collapse, or delegate. His father-in-law, Jethro, gave wise counsel: ‘Figure out what only you can do—and delegate the rest.’ In other words, don’t carry alone what God never intended you to bear alone. But notice—Jethro didn’t say to ditch responsibility or dump it on just anyone. Effective delegation requires discernment and strategy. Here are three timeless principles from this story: (1) Get the right people – Those who are capable, trustworthy, and God-fearing. (2) Give them the right task – Delegate according to ability, not convenience. (3) Trust them to do it right – Don’t micromanage; empower them and let them lead. If you’re stretched thin or burning out, this is God’s word for you today: Do what only you can do. Share the rest. Trust God with the outcome.

The only true attitude for the Christian is that of dependence...

I am come from heaven, not that I should do My will, but the will of Him that has sent Me.
(John 6:38)

The only true attitude for the Christian is that of dependence. The moment we get off the ground of dependence on God we are sure to come to grief. This is true both individually...More

Are You Feeling Insecure? (3)

The Lordsaid to me, "Now, I have put my words in your mouth." '
Jeremiah 1:9 NIV

The people God calls usually start out feeling ill-equipped and insecure. Indeed, if you jumped and said, No problem, Lord, I can handle that,' He wouldn't call you at all. You say, but I've made so many...More

CO-PILOT USED SKY DEVIL' LOG IN

Be reminded that evidence from the cockpit voice recorder suggests that Mr. Andreas Lubitz, 27, the killer co-pilot of GERMAN WINGS FLIGHT 9525 locked the cock pit door when Capt Patrick Sondenheimer, 34, also of Dusseldorf city, left for a toilet break and used controls to override the entry code, crashing the plane...More
