As filming for the highly anticipated The Summer I Turned Pretty movie continues, its cast and crew are requesting that devoted fans respect their privacy on set.

The official social media accounts for the Jenny Han-created series shared their message to fans on Tuesday in a video showcasing the words “PRIVACY PLEASE” written in the sand. The post noted that while the excitement from fans is welcome, sharing filming locations and visiting sets is proving to be a worry for those involved in the production.

“We love the excitement, but sharing locations and visiting set disrupts filming and creates real safety concerns for our cast and crew,” read the caption of the post. “We’re working hard to create a protected bubble to make the best movie possible. Please help us protect the magic of Cousins until it’s ready to be shared.”

The forthcoming film, starring Lola Tung as Belly Conklin and Christopher Briney as Conrad Fisher, is expected to serve as a satisfying end to the beloved show and book series. Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman and Rain Spencer are among the stars of the series who are also returning for the film. Production commenced on April 27 in Wilmington, N.C., and in recent weeks, fan-shot footage of Tung, Briney and Casalegno filming at several locations has circulated on social media.

Not everyone is understanding of the request for privacy.

Online, some fans of the series are arguing that people wouldn’t feel the need to visit filming locations if they were able to see official photos from the production.

“The cast/crew/staff and whoever else are indeed afforded the right to have privacy on the sets they work at…… however it’s also very easy to post an ‘in-production’ photo here online to drum up excitement in a safer & interactive fan-friendly way,” one X user wrote.

Another wrote, “Maybe you should have posted an in production picture or Chris and Lola announcing the movie and asking for privacy while filming. Furthermore, you are filming outside and locals with grainy pictures are not harming a fly.”

An X user added, “Sorry babe, we got too excited!! maybe we can get bts or anything to feed us until the movie?? Omg.”

This isn’t the first time that fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty have been called out for their overzealous behavior. Han previously cautioned fans against posting images of women being “slapped or choked” in response to the way Tung’s character was behaving at certain points during the third season.
