Michigan school shooting suspect and his parents put on suicide watch

The suspect in last week's deadly Michigan school shooting and both of his parents were placed on suicide watch after being taken into custody, authorities said.

Ethan Crumbley, 15, and his parents, Jennifer and James Crumbley, were each isolated from one another at Oakland County Jail, Sheriff Michael Bouchard told reporters.

"There was no indication that any of them were suicidal, but out of an abundance of caution, our amazing corrections team is doing suicide watches on all three of them," Bouchard said Saturday at a press conference.

Bouchard said it is standard for inmates to be evaluated in order to determine if they pose risks to themselves or others.

Ethan Crumbley was charged as an adult in the shooting that killed four teenagers at Oxford High School last Tuesday. The charges against him include murder, attempted murder and terrorism.

Ethan Crumbley is accused of using a semiautomatic handgun in the shooting, which also left seven others injured.

His parents were charged with involuntary manslaughter, with prosecutors contending they should have intervened.

Jennifer and James Crumbley were found in "distress" inside a Detroit building on Saturday following a manhunt by authorities.

The parents, who pleaded not guilty, could spend up to 15 years in prison. Their son faces life behind bars if convicted.

The victims killed in the shooting have been identified as 14-year-old Hana St. Juliana, 16-year-old Tate Myre, and Justin Shilling and Madisyn Baldwin, who were both 17.
