Marjorie Taylor Greene chased Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez down a corridor in Congress, yelling at her about terrorists and radical socialists

Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, wearing a mask labeled Free Speech, walks down a corridor on Capitol Hill followed by a staffer.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene departs her office to hold a news conference on Capitol Hill on February 5.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene pursued Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) down a corridor in the Capitol, accusing her of supporting terrorists and berating her "radical socialism," The Washington Post reported.

It came as she and Ocasio-Cortez left the House chamber on Wednesday, The Post reported, citing two of its reporters who were there.

Greene seemed keen to get Ocasio-Cortez's attention, shouting "Hey Alexandria" twice when it was clear the New York congresswoman would not engage, then hurrying after her, The Post reported.

"You don't care about the American people," Greene reportedly yelled. "Why do you support terrorists and antifa?"

She also reportedly asked Ocasio-Cortez why she would not defend her "radical socialist" beliefs by joining a debate.

Ocasio-Cortez ignored Greene other than to throw up her hands, The Post reported. Greene then turned to nearby reporters and called Ocasio-Cortez a "chicken."

Greene has had a swift rise off the back of her Trumpian positions, as Insider's Dave Levinthal reported. She continues to deny the validity of the 2020 presidential election.

In February, the Democratic-controlled House voted to strip Greene of her committee assignments - a move that increased her notoriety.

Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive with similar star power, has become a favorite target. Greene challenged Ocasio-Cortez to a debate over the her Green New Deal plan in April, which Ocasio-Cortez turned down.

Greene did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment or clarification on what she had meant by "terrorists" in Wednesday's debacle.

In a Facebook video posted Wednesday, the congresswoman made similar accusations, describing Ocasio-Cortez and her congressional allies as "The Jihad Squad" - a play on the group's "Squad" nickname.

In the video, Greene said Ocasio-Cortez and other progressive members of Congress such as Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar supported "terrorists" in their public defense of Gazans in recent hostilities with Israel.

Ocasio-Cortez has not defended Hamas militant actions, tweeting on Wednesday that they are "condemnable."

Greene also said in the Facebook video that "the Squad" supported domestic terrorism in their support for Black Lives Matter and antifa.

A spokesperson for Ocasio-Cortez told Insider in a statement that Greene had been "screaming."

"Representative Greene tried to begin an argument with Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez and when Rep. Ocasio-Cortez tried to walk away, Congresswoman Greene began screaming and called Rep. Ocasio-Cortez a terrorist sympathizer," the statement read.

Ocasio-Cortez's spokeswoman, Lauren Hitt, went on to call on officials in Congress to ensure a "safe, civil" environment for members, noting that another member had moved offices because of Greene.

Democratic Rep. Cori Bush moved at the end of January after being "berated," as she put it, by Greene.

Staffers for Ocasio-Cortez did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
