Home surveillance footage reportedly shows 4-year-old Dallas boy stolen from his bed before death

Surveillance footage inside a Dallas home reportedly captured Darriynn Brown picking 4-year-old Cash Gernon up from his bed and then carrying him away.

Two hours later, Cash was found dead on the street, about eight blocks away.

Brown, 18, has since been arrested and charged with kidnapping and theft, but police said more charges are expected "pending results from a forensic analysis."

The video, obtained by police, shows Brown taking Cash out of bed around 5 a.m. Saturday, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The relationship between Brown and Cash, if any, is still unclear.

Police spokesman Albert Martinez told the newspaper that "an edged weapon" may have been used in the "violent" death.

"We are shocked, we are very angry about what has happened to this small child," Martinez said.

Cash and his twin brother were staying at the home of Monica Sherrod, their biological father's girlfriend, according to the Dallas Police Department. The man had been missing since March 2021 and Sherrod has reportedly not been able to track him down.

The 4-year-old boys' biological mother, Melinda Seagroves, has been trying to track down her sons as well. Cash's brother has since been returned to her, police said.

Kamron Mori, an 18-year-old also living at Sherrod's house, said he went to high school with Brown.

"I'm already cried out," he told the Morning News. "Evil. No reason. Literally, no reason."
