Barkevious Mingo arrested for alleged 'indecency with a child'; Falcons terminate linebacker's contract

Atlanta Falcons linebacker Barkevious Mingo was arrested Thursday and accused of sexual contact with a child, according to the Arlington (Texas) Police Department.

Mingo posted a $25,000 bond and was released from custody, according to Tarrant County, Texas, bond records.

The alleged offense is a felony in Texas that can carry up to 20 years in prison depending on whether it's a second or third-degree charge.

Mingo turned himself in after talking to his attorney, an Arlington Police press release stated.

Due to the nature of the alleged incident, the Arlington Police Department could not release any more information.

Arlington police released this information about Falcons defensive end Barkevious Mingo, who was arrested today on one count of Indecency with a Child - Sexual Contact.

"Our organization became aware of the allegations involving Barkevious Mingo today and are currently gathering information on this incident," the Falcons said in a statement to multiple outlets Saturday. "The Falcons take the allegations very seriously and will continue to monitor the situation."

The Falcons announced they had released Mingo late Saturday night.

"After being made aware today of allegations involving Barkevious Mingo and gathering information on the matter, the Atlanta Falcons have terminated his contract," the team said in a statement.

Mingo signed a one-year contract with the Falcons in March. A 2013 first-round pick by the Cleveland Browns, the linebacker has played for five teams after being traded to the New England Patriots in 2016.
