Spain's Civil Guard believes Jota was driving too fast at the time of the crash that killed him and his brother



Spainish authorities said Tuesday that they believe Liverpool striker Diogo Jota was driving over the speed limit at the time of a highway crash that killed both him and his brother, Andre Silva, last week. While Spain's Civil Guard is continuing their investigation into the accident, officials said Tuesday that they believe Jota was driving at the time of the accident.

Jota, a star player for both Liverpool and his native Portugal, had been driving with his brother in a Lamborghini when it blew a tire, sending it off the highway before it crashed and burst into flames. According to the Associated Press, media in Portugal reported that Jota had been en route to Santander in order to take a ferry to England in order to rejoin Liverpool after being advised not to fly following a recent lung procedure.

The early findings of Spanish authorities come days after a funeral was held for both Jota and Silva in their native Portugal, which was attended by Jota's teammates on both Liverpool and Portugal's national team. Jota is survived by his wife and their three children, and his death occurred just weeks after he and his wife were married during Liverpool's offseason.
