Eyeing the cash, Real Madrid 'proposes' Club World Cup every 2 years

Aware of its global impact and the success of the first Club World Cup, Real Madrid made a bold suggestion to FIFA: that the tournament be held every two years.

Initially, the competition will be held every four seasons.

The next one is scheduled for 2029, but still without a defined venue - Brazil has already positioned itself as a possibility.

FIFA, in turn, would only consider increasing the number of participating clubs: from 32 to 48.

Real's suggestion was reportedly made during the edition held in the United States.

The team of Xabi Alonso fell in the semifinals by taking a resounding 4 x 0 from the future runner-up PSG.

The performance of the biggest Champions champion in the US was not ideal. But there was plenty of success off the field.

Real alone was responsible for the sale of 25% of the tickets for the World Cup.

One of the focuses of President Florentino Pérez is to secure more revenue for a club that took out a loan of 1.2 billion euros for the renovation of Santiago Bernabéu.

Real wants a World Cup every two years even if it is not guaranteed in the next one.

Which teams are certain for 2029?

Despite having won the first edition of the Club World Cup, Chelsea does not yet have a guaranteed spot in the next one.

The only European club already certain is PSG, the current Champions League champion.

The four qualifiers are:

Al-Ahli (KSA) - Champion of the Asian Champions League 2024/25

Cruz Azul (MEX) - Champion of the Concacaf Champions Cup 2025

PSG - Champion of the Uefa Champions League 2024/25

Pyramids FC (EGY) - Champion of the CAF Champions League 2024/25

Who can host the World Cup in 2029?

Still according to The Guardian, FIFA is considering more than one venue for the next edition.

The fact that the 2030 World Cup has Spain, Portugal, and Morocco as hosts is an indication that the club tournament may have games in the same countries.

But Portugal has not shown interest.

Qatar, the host of the national teams' World Cup in 2022, has already positioned itself as a possibility.

The same goes for Brazil, the stage in 2014.
