Bold Arsene Wenger claim made about Mikel Arteta after Arsenal's win over Tottenham

Arsenal have now won three straight Premier League games with the pressure on Mikel Arteta definitely easing, and a former Gunner has made a big claim about the new boss and Arsene Wenger

Gael Clichy believes Mikel Arteta could become the "next Arsene Wenger" at Arsenal after his side beat Tottenham 3-1.

The Gunners were very impressive on Sunday afternoon after goals from Emile Smith Rowe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka handed the hosts all three points at the Emirates Stadium in the first North London Derby of the season.

After losing their opening three matches of the Premier League campaign, it's now three successive victories for Arteta's team, where they have won with an aggregate scoreline of 5-1 against Norwich City, Burnley and Spurs.

Clichy, when speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live after seeing his former club comfortably beat Tottenham, was full of praise for the job Arteta is doing at the Emirates.

"I really believe in the long term he could be the next Arsene Wenger. He is quite young, and I truly believe, given time, he will prove people wrong."

Arteta has always talked about trusting the process at Arsenal and Sunday afternoon's performance was certainly something closer to what he has planned in the long term in north London.

He said after the game: "Well, what we did is try to explain to them, with a different perspective, what happened in the last few weeks.

"We missed nine, 10, 11 players in three matches that we could not select that they were out and the ones that were in as well with a lot of difficulties because they had COVID and they had injuries.

"And we played the best two teams in the world which you could see yesterday when they played each other.

"But we have to accept that we were bottom of the table. That was the first, accept that reality, go back to certain things that we have to do better and then believe in what we had to do.
