Believing God’s Words

By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
Hebrews 11:7

Believing God’s Words
Noah saw things from God’s perspective. He was not led by what was popular, or his favorite thing to do, but by what God told him to do. Today, God speaks to us through the complete Word of God, inspired and written by the Spirit of God, using about forty human authors. God regretted what He had made because of humanity’s sins and failures, but Noah found favor in His sight (Gen. 6:5–8). God instructed Noah to build an ark that would provide shelter to him and his wife, along with their three sons and their wives. They survived the flood, together with the animals God sent to the ark—an amazing story! Through a series of miracles, God transferred those eight humans and the animals from a world under condemnation to a new world of blessing.

God blessed Noah after he exited the ark and built an altar where he offered up to God a very special sacrifice (8:20–22). All this was pleasing to God, as the sacrifices on the altar provided something in which He found His delight. People mock Noah’s story, or do not want to take seriously the account the Bible gives about the flood. How sad! God is not mocked, and this rejection will cause God to send another judgment. This time, it will not be through water, as in Noah’s days, but by fire (2 Pet. 3:6–7). How solemn! Noah did exactly what God instructed him to do. People may have mocked him, but Noah simply obeyed.

What an example for us today! We have many more instructions from God’s Word than Noah ever had, but he took God at His word, and survived the flood because he believed what God told him.
