“Verily, Verily” in John (10)—The Door of the Sheep

Jesus therefore said again to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep … I am the door: if any one enter in by Me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and shall go out and shall find pasture.
John 10:7, 9 ???

“Verily, Verily” in John (10)—The Door of the Sheep
In John 10, the Lord Jesus likens Himself to the shepherd as well as the door of the sheep.

First, He speaks of Himself as the door. A door is what gives entrance. It is well known that in Israel in those days, a shepherd would herd his sheep into a fold and then lie across the entrance to protect His sheep. It seems that this is the figure which the Lord uses. However, He is the door, not into a fold, but into the blessings He has brought as the Son.

As in the tabernacle there was only one door or gate to come before God (Ex. 27:16), so too there is only one door into the blessings of Christianity. The Lord Jesus also said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father unless by Me” (Jn. 14:6).

Notice the three blessings He states to those who enter by Him. First, there is salvation. This is not a temporal, earthly salvation. This is an “eternal salvation” (Heb. 5:9). Only an eternal Person who accomplished a work that is eternal in its results could give us eternal salvation. Let us rest in this word. We can never lose eternal salvation. This salvation is based on Christ and what He has done.

Second, we find there is liberty: “go in and out.” Both sin and the law brought people into bondage. Christ sets us free.

Third, we find there is pasture, or food. As the Shepherd, He makes us to lie down in green pastures, and leads us beside still waters. Let us look to Him more and more for the spiritual food we need, whether individually, in our families, or in our collective meetings together.

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God.

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More
