Washed With Water

When they go into the tabernacle of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn an offering made by fire to the LORD, they shall wash with water, lest they die.
Exodus 30:20

Washed With Water
“Just as I am, without one plea … I come,” goes an evangelistic hymn. And so it is: the prodigal must come to God as he is, as a sinner. That is something he cannot change on his own.

However, he should not remain as he is! When he has converted, he is born again. And this is where growth starts, just like in natural life. He has an urgent need to get to know his new Lord better; he worships Him and develops a desire to serve Him practically. This is not compatible with that which characterized his former life, but he did not suddenly get rid of this former life with his conversion! He still has the old, unrenewed, and unimprovable nature within him, and he continues to live in the same world with its temptations to sin. After a short while, he must confirm the words of James: “We all stumble in many things” (Jas. 3:2).

What is to be done? When Aaron and his sons wanted to enter the tent of the meeting to honor and worship their Lord, they had to “wash with water.” It is the same for us. Today, of course, the believer no longer does this literally, but by occupying himself with the Word of God (Eph. 5:26; Heb. 10:22). In this way, God reveals His will and His standards. Existing sin is to be recognized and confessed; the believer purifies himself in order to be able to serve God with joy in practical holiness.

Frank Ulrich

“Clean every whit”; Thou saidst it, Lord!
Shall one suspicion lurk?
Thine, surely, is a faithful word,
And Thine a finished work.

The only true attitude for the Christian is that of dependence...

I am come from heaven, not that I should do My will, but the will of Him that has sent Me.
(John 6:38)

The only true attitude for the Christian is that of dependence. The moment we get off the ground of dependence on God we are sure to come to grief. This is true both individually...More

Are You Feeling Insecure? (3)

The Lordsaid to me, "Now, I have put my words in your mouth." '
Jeremiah 1:9 NIV

The people God calls usually start out feeling ill-equipped and insecure. Indeed, if you jumped and said, No problem, Lord, I can handle that,' He wouldn't call you at all. You say, but I've made so many...More

CO-PILOT USED SKY DEVIL' LOG IN

Be reminded that evidence from the cockpit voice recorder suggests that Mr. Andreas Lubitz, 27, the killer co-pilot of GERMAN WINGS FLIGHT 9525 locked the cock pit door when Capt Patrick Sondenheimer, 34, also of Dusseldorf city, left for a toilet break and used controls to override the entry code, crashing the plane...More
