Daniel’s Purpose of Heart (1)

Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Now God had brought Daniel into the favor and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs.
Daniel 1:8–9

Daniel’s Purpose of Heart (1)
Here is the picture of a believer living in constant communion with his God, knowing His thoughts, being tested and proving himself. Our verses show us three steps on this path:

“Daniel purposed in his heart.” That is where it all starts: in the heart! If this belongs to our God, then our life also belongs to Him. If there resolutions are made with the energy of faith, then our feet can only walk by faith. A very important aspect was clear to Daniel: the food with which the pagan king fortified himself and the wine he enjoyed could only defile a believer. There was only one way, to turn away.

“He requested … that he might not defile himself.” Then he spoke what his heart had decided. Without further delay, the chief heard the judgment of faith. In a proper way, but with determination, Daniel made his request. Whether the chief of the eunuchs understood him or not, that was in God’s hands; God took Daniel’s case into His own hands.

“God had brought Daniel into the favor and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs.” That was the answer to a firm heart and fearless lips! This had to lead to a good end. Even the objections of the chief could not prevent God from rewarding the faithfulness of His own, and glorifying His name through them.

O may we then, blest Father, Thy gracious word believe,
That we may by Thy Spirit the truth in love receive;
For we would thus be girded to serve our faithful Lord,
And in this day of conflict cleave to His name and word.

GOD PROMOTES

When God set out to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, it was to take them out of captivity and bondage and to lift them up. God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

A LIBERAL HEART?

Read:
, God asked the widow to feed the prophet before taking care of herself. At the end of the day, what was not enough became more than enough. To what extent do you practice giving as an individual, family, church or nation?

Those who never give will continue to beg, if you desire to...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
