Christ Our Savior (9)—His Two Appearings

For the grace of God which carries with it salvation for all men has appeared.

Awaiting the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.

Titus 2:11; Titus 2:13

Christ Our Savior (9)—His Two Appearings
First of all, we must notice that this verse emphasizes the absolute deity of our Lord Jesus. He is our "great God and Savior Jesus Christ." God and Man in one blessed Person!

Then, notice the two appearings in these verses. We are living in the interval between these two comings. We look back and see His first appearing in this world. Did He come then to judge? No, for then there would have been no hope for any of us! He came "full of grace and truth" (Jn. 1:14). He came not as the Judge but as the Savior, bringing the grace of God and salvation available for all mankind! He came as the blessed Man who was meek and lowly of heart, the Man who was approachable by all, who could heal all.

Notice the second appearing is one of glory. We are "awaiting" this appearing. He will come then as the Judge, and He will "execute judgment upon" the ungodly (Jude 1:14-15). He shall consume the lawless one (antichrist) with "the spirit of His mouth" and the "brightness of His coming" (2 Th. 2:8 kjv). Yet still, He is coming as the Savior, for He will deliver the Jewish remnant and the innumerable Gentiles who will be saved through the tribulation time, though not part of the Church (Rev. 7:4-9).

What about us who are part of the Church of God presently on earth? We believe that the "blessed hope" refers to His coming for His Church to catch us up to the Father's house before His appearing in glory. What a hope lies before us! At any moment He will give that shout and He will gather us to Himself in glory (1 Th. 4:16; 2 Th. 2:1)!

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Always Be Humble

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
