Jesus never promised those who trust Him an easy...

He (Jesus) said to his disciples, Let us cross over to the other side of the lake. And they launched out. But as they sailed he fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in jeopardy. And they came to him and awoke him, saying, Master, Master, we are perishing!
Luke 8:22-24.

Jesus never promised those who trust Him an easy pathway for their life but a safe arrival at their heavenly destination. The Lake of Gennesaret in the Upper Jordan valley is 600 feet below sea level. The surrounding mountains rise to 1200 feet above the lake. The deep cleft causes sudden fall winds and storms.

One such storm whipped up the lake, endangering the boat, when Jesus and His disciples were in it. Tired after a long day on which He had not only preached, but also healed many sick people, Jesus had fallen asleep during the crossing.

The disciples knew the perils of the lake; some of them were fishermen. But when the storm increased and water swamped the boat, they were at their wit's end. However, they knew who to turn to in their plight.

They had true faith in Christ. So they went to Him, awakened Him and told Him their trouble: "Master, Master, we are perishing!" Their call for help showed their despair and fear.

The disciples were struck by the fierceness of the storm; their knowledge of the greatness of their Master had disappeared. In their terror they came to Jesus. Would He perform another miracle?

(to be concluded tomorrow).

Today's reading: Exodus 33:1-11 · Luke 14:1-11

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
