Thoughts on the Gospel of John (108)

The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, and cried out, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD! The King of Israel! Then Jesus, when he had found a young donkey, sat on it.
John 12:12-14.

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (108)
The Bible, the Word of God, is unique: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God" (2 Timothy 3:16). "Holy men of God spoke moved by the Holy Spirit" (2 Peter 1:21). This truth we stress. The closer we examine the Bible, the more we are impressed by the way God had His thoughts recorded without the writers abandoning their individuality. In the gospels some occurrences are reported by one evangelist, others by all four.

Even if it is not always easy to establish God's intention, the resurrection of Lazarus is one particular testimony that is eminently suited to John' s gospel, for Jesus is the Son of God (cf. ch. 20:31).

By contrast, all four evangelists report Jesus' entry in Jerusalem, when He was welcomed and honoured as the King by the people. This event was of general significance: it showed the honour due to the Lord as the One announced as the people's Messiah.

The Lord found a young donkey and mounted it. He could control the stubborn character of the creature. Had He no right to an impressive horse as a king? Why did the King of Israel ride on a donkey? We are not surprised, for the Lord readily took a lowly position. He was humble as none other. This expresses His moral greatness.

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, ...

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, says to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which means Teacher. Jesus says to her, Touch Me not, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.

We have not a high priest not able to sympathize with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.

PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE

Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: "Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich". Change in life is...More
