Someone once wrote that the greatest...

Giving thanks to the Father, who has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of his love, in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins.
Colossians 1:12-14.

Someone once wrote that the greatest writers of best sellers in history all promised their readers freedom from all evils: philosophers, political theorists and the evangelists of the Bible.

The message of redemption stands indeed in the forefront of the Bible. But it is not the only reason why God's Word is read so much. Many have discovered that guidance, joy and strength for all situations in life are found in the Bible.

What is decisive: this book brings us into contact with God and His Son, Jesus Christ. That makes the Bible topical and distinguishes it from other books.

Regarding redemption, the great minds in man's history have not fulfilled their promise of salvation. In Jesus Christ alone has redemption been a fact experienced and testified by countless Christians. They were pronounced free from their guilt and the threat of judgment. They also experienced release from the exterior, sinister power of the devil.

This was the work of God through Jesus Christ, "the Son of his love", as He is designated in today's verse. This redemption was not without its price: the Son of God paid the ransom for it by dying for the sinful as their substitute. Whoever relies on Him by faith is redeemed.

Today's reading: 1 Chronicles 14:1-17 · Psalms 87:1-7

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
