A testimony from Jerusalem

Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, Come and see.

These (signs) are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.

John 1:46; 20:31.

A testimony from Jerusalem
Zvi Weichert was born in Poland shortly before the Second World War. Particularly resourceful, he was one of the few children to escape from the Warsaw ghetto where his entire family died. After unbelievable adventures Zvi migrated to Palestine. Although a Jew, he had never had any contact with the Bible. But He sought the truth.

One day he was offered a New Testament in a street in Jerusalem. Zvi accepted it readily. The interest that he had in that book soon awakened his intense desire to get to know God. He spent hours reading and re-reading it, sometimes forgetting to eat. He was captivated by Jesus' Person, whose goodness and wisdom attracted him. But why did He, who did no evil, have to be crucified?

Near a restaurant where Zvi used to eat he was intrigued by songs coming from a house. He clearly distinguished the Name of Jesus. He noted the house and some weeks later entered it. There he heard explanations of the Bible that impressed him. One evening Zvi realised that he had to respond personally to what he had read and heard. He needed forgiveness for his own wrongs towards God. So he expressed his faith in Jesus Christ in a prayer. It was a simple step, but it changed his whole life. In fact, Zvi found in Jesus his Messiah, whom he had long sought, or rather, who had sought him.

Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 15:1-19 · Revelation 3:14-22
