Accountability

Always be ready to give a defence to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you.
1 Peter 3:15

Accountability
As Christians, we seek to live a life that is consistent with the Word of God and that honours the Lord Jesus. However we live in a world that doesn’t want anything to do with God. Therefore, our behaviour often conflicts with the way of life of our unbelieving peers. This can raise some questions in them: Why do you pray before meals? Why don’t you come to our party? Why do you go to church every Sunday? Why don’t you resort to a white lie to get yourself out of a tricky situation?

We shouldn’t respond to such questions with evasive answers. Rather, they are an opportunity to testify to our faith in the Lord Jesus. The Apostle Peter urges us to always be ready and willing to give the reasons for our behaviour.

o We pray before meals because we believe in the living God who is a sustainer of life and gives us enough to eat every day (1 Timothy 4:10).
o We do not celebrate wild parties because the Lord doesn’t want us to engage in drinking and revelry (1 Peter 4:3).
o We attend meetings of believers every Sunday to keep the memorial supper of our Saviour and to hear the Word of God (Luke 22:19).
o We no longer want to lie but to speak the truth because we are disciples of the Lord Jesus who always testified to the truth (Ephesians 4:20–25).

Today’s reading: Joel 2:18-3:6 · Proverbs 2:9-22

TRANSFORMED BY THE NEW CREATION

One of the most profound wonders you will find anywhere in the world is the wonder of a transformed life. When a person who was demon-possessed suddenly becomes a vessel unto honour, what wonder can be greater than this? Such a person remains a wonder throughout his or her lifetime. This was the testimony of Mary...More
